About the KML format
Keyhole Markup Language (KML) is an XML-based format developed for Google Earth and now maintained by the OGC. It is widely used in Google Maps, Google Earth, and many consumer-facing mapping applications. KML supports styled geometry, network links, folders, and time-based animations. It always uses geographic coordinates (WGS 84) and is stored as plain XML text. KMZ is simply a ZIP-compressed KML file, which can also include embedded images and other resources.

Q.Does it support KMZ files too?
Yes. Upload a .kmz file directly — Maparz extracts the KML inside and renders it on the map.
Q.Will folder structure and styles be preserved in the preview?
The geometry and features are rendered on the map. KML-specific styling (icon colors, line widths) is not applied in the preview but is preserved if you download the original file.
Q.Can I convert KML to GeoJSON after viewing?
Yes. After the preview loads, select GeoJSON (or Shapefile, GeoPackage, GPX, etc.) as the output format and click Convert.
Q.Do I need a Google account?
No. Maparz is entirely independent of Google services. No account or login is needed.
